Renowned NASCAR sportscaster Dave Moody, also known as the “Godfather”, will be at Riverside International Speedway July 18 and 19 as a special guest for the IWK 250 Super Weekend. But it’s not the first 250 at Riverside for Moody; he was the play-by-play announcer for the American-Canadian Tour (ACT) when it sanctioned the Riverside 250 in 1991 and 1992. Since then, he’s become one of the best-known voices in NASCAR racing – on the Motor Racing Network (MRN) and as host of the daily Sirius XM Speedway show on Sirius XM NASCAR Radio Channel 90.

“I’m excited to get back to the Maritimes,” said Moody. “It’ll be great to see old friends, renew old acquaintances, meet the fans and racers, and see some great short track racing.”

Moody is the lead turn announcer on MRN Radio NASCAR Cup Series broadcasts and also co-anchors some NASCAR Xfinity Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series races. He started with MRN in 1983 and has since called some of the most memorable races in the sport’s history. He’s been the host of the nationally syndicated Sirius XM Speedway since the show debuted in 2003; it’s there he earned his nickname, the “Godfather.”

A Vermont native, Moody learned his craft at the hands of the legendary Ken Squier, co-founder of MRN and then owner of Thunder Road Speedbowl. When Squier was tapped by CBS Sports to anchor their NASCAR broadcasts, Squier selected a young Moody to replace him as the track’s public address announcer. With Squier’s blessing, Moody debuted on MRN in the 1983 Daytona 500 as a garage reporter. He worked as a turn announcer for the first time in 1987. Known for his high-energy play-by-play and distinctive voice, he became the NASCAR Cup Series lead turn announcer for MRN in 2001 and, after that, started co-anchoring in the booth for select companion events. Once he began working with MRN, Moody further developed his craft, learning from another legendary voice in NASCAR, Barney Hall.

Fans can meet Moody at Riverside on Friday (July 18) during a pre-race autograph session with him and this year’s IWK 250 celebrity driver of the Cat Car for Kids, Bubba Pollard, a North American short track racing superstar. And on Saturday (July 19), during the IWK 250 pre-race show featuring live entertainment and the cars and stars of the starting lineup for the IWK 250 presented by Steve Lewis.

During the IWK 250, Moody will do guest spots on the public address system during the event alongside track announcers Dylan Langille and Noel Fougere. Fans can listen to the public address system at the track using earbuds or headphones by downloading the TrackTune app (data charges may apply) on their smartphone; it’s free and easy and a fantastic way to add to the experience of a race at Riverside.
